Frozen lakes of Sweden

The frozen lakes of Sweden are a truly magical sight to behold. Each winter, the country’s many lakes and rivers transform into sparkling icy landscapes, perfect for winter activities such as ice skating, skiing, and snowmobiling.

One of the most popular frozen lakes in Sweden is Torneträsk Lake, located in the northern region of Lapland. This vast lake is home to a number of small islands, which are connected by ice roads in the winter. Visitors can explore the islands by snowmobile, dog sled, or even on skis.

Another popular destination for ice skating is Storsjön Lake in Östersund. This lake is home to the Frösö Runestone, a 11th-century Viking runestone that is one of the most important archaeological sites in Sweden. Visitors can skate around the runestone and admire its intricate carvings.

If you’re looking for a more adventurous experience, you can try ice driving on Lake Vättern. This lake is one of the largest in Sweden and is home to a number of ice driving schools. Visitors can learn how to drive on ice safely and even try their hand at some ice racing.
